Clarins Barocco Holiday 2010 Makeup

Inspired by the sensual Baroque period, the Barocco holiday makeup collection from Clarins is very elegant and visually stunning. Instead of bright bold colors the focus is on dramatic smoky eyes, classic red lips and a shimmering golden visage.

The star product is the Barocco Face Palette. Presented in an ornate black lacquer and white gold compact, the silky face powder is a swirl of beige and pinky peach shades. The peach is wonderful for the apples of the cheeks. Both the compact lid and powder within are carved with a beautiful black scroll pattern. It's quite a luxurious compact but it's pretty heavy - you might not want to carry this in your purse all day.

The Barocco Eyeshadow Trio is a palette of three eyeshadows (black, gold, bronze) for creating a day-to-night smoky eyelid. These buildable colors are very similar to the Bobbi Brown Sultry Eye Palette from the Smoky, Sultry, Smoldering collection but it's actually $5 cheaper and seems to have more product per shade. Definitely use a wet brush for a deeper color, or just use a dry brush for a lighter daytime look.

The limited edition Shimmering Gold Powder for Face & Décolleté is a really fun accent for a holiday look. Little gold nuggets are nestled under a fluffy black powder puff. With a gentle sweep the nuggets release a fine micro sheen of golden shimmer for the face and décolleté. Be super careful when opening this box - it's really messy so don't get it all over your clothes when applying this powder.

The Barocco Rouge Prodige lipstick is inspired by Baroque-style purple velvet drapes, and the deep berry red is such a quintessential holiday lip color. This glamorous lipstick is housed in a pretty gold case with a black scroll on the front. If you haven't tried the Rouge Prodige lipstick line before, check out my review here.

Available at Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Nordstrom and us.clarins.com.

Beautiful face powder. In fact, I feel like I should be dressed in a corset and powdered wig just looking at all these lovely products. ;)
