Spring Cleaning: How To Organize Your Makeup Bag

Now that spring is in full swing, you're probably really excited to experiment with new makeup trends. Before you start, you must organize your makeup bag. If you do this properly, your daily beauty routine will go a lot smoother and your expensive products won't go to waste.

Throw away old products. If it's smelly, dried up, separated and leaky, it's time to say au revoir. Be sure to check the shelf life of each item. Remove anything that you haven't used in months - you most likely won't wear it again. Clean your makeup brushes weekly and place them upright in a glass.

Be a minimalist. The more you organize your makeup bag, the faster you'll complete your routine. Choose absolute favorite products and colors that you'll use on a daily basis. Don't pack more than two lipstick shades - ditto for eye shadow. Make room for other essentials like mascara, blush, eye liner, concealer, foundation and face powder. Keep all other products in a separate cosmetic case or bathroom drawer.

Replenish what's missing. Don't add a bunch of lip glosses when you're missing a reliable lip liner. Keep one or two shades and store the other glosses in another space reserved for non-daily use.

Save space. Invest in a versatile, double duty product that can be used on lips and cheeks (such as a creme or stain). If you don't like to slather tons of product a beauty balm can eliminate a couple steps in your skin care regimen.

Rotate shades regularly. Don't get stuck in a beauty rut. Make an effort to use every single item from your makeup stash. If you're a neutral gal in general, dare to experiment with a bold lipstick shade. Use a pair of sexy false lashes for a hot date. Before leaving the house, take out the products you won't be using that day from the bag. This is just like planning your daily wardrobe - with a streamlined system in place, you'll have the bare confidence to carry out any trendy look.

Really? You can go two to three months without washing your makeup brushes? Because I've seen other people say you should do it every week (though, I'll be the first to say I definitely do it THAT often! LOL).
