The I Spa at the InterContinental Hotel

Tucked away on the 6th floor of the InterContinental San Francisco, The I Spa is a tranquil respite from the bustling downtown area. Whether you're visiting SF or doing some last-minute holiday shopping, definitely drop by to take advantage of the spa's relaxing treatments. They're now offering the seasonal Peppermint Patty Pleasure hot stone massage and the customized Sugar Plum Facial through the end of the year.

As part of the new facial services, the spa is now featuring four brands of skin care: Eve Taylor of London, Murad, Jan Marini and Phytomer from France. I recently got to experience the Eve Taylor products during the Skin Brightening Facial with Lighteners. For over four decades this company is considered an industry pioneer for using pure aromatherapy oils within their skin care. Organic botanicals are also carefully incorporated into the entire product line.

The treatment began with an aromatherapy ritual. Ida, my knowledgeable aesthetician, applied a blend of healing essential oils (sandalwood, patchouli, geranium, lavender, mandarin, marjoram) to the palms of my hands and soles of my feet. The oils are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and the nervous system is instantly calmed. As I was heading towards a state of relaxation I was treated to a dual cleanse with a soothing oatmeal cleanser and a balancing lavender cleanser.

A fruit acid peel is then applied for a few minutes and extractions followed. My favorite part of the treatment was the seaweed brightening mask. The cooling sensation calmed my skin after the peel and it helped oxgenate the skin cells. It also evened out my skin tone, making it more luminous. After a relaxing arm and hand massage we finished with a protective layer of Age Resist Day Cream (avocado, sunflower, lavender) and some sunscreen. The exclusive Eve Taylor line is not readily available in the U.S., but you can purchase their products at The I Spa.
